The Production
A legendary thriller comes to Enosburg Falls
Under the direction of Jim Bray and produced by Jodi Bray, Stephen King’s legendary psychological thriller comes to life at the historic Opera House in Enosburg Falls, October 1–3, 2026. This talented creative team takes on one of the most acclaimed suspense stories ever written — a novel, film, and theatrical phenomenon that has captivated and unsettled audiences for nearly forty years.
With a small cast, rich character development, and relentless suspense, Misery offers actors the opportunity to tackle complex roles, challenge themselves creatively, and bring a legendary Stephen King story to life for a new audience.
To encourage broad participation and provide flexibility for performers, the production team is exploring multi-casting and rotating roles throughout the run, depending on auditions, availability, and production needs. Ages are flexible and will be determined by the production team based on auditions.

The Roles
Character breakdowns
Ages are flexible for all roles and will be determined by the production team based on auditions. Multi-casting and rotating roles may be used throughout the run.
Paul Sheldon Lead
A best-selling novelist, famous for his romance series and its beloved heroine, Misery Chastain. After a car crash leaves him gravely injured and snowbound, he wakes in the remote farmhouse of a stranger — and discovers that survival will demand every ounce of wit, nerve, and endurance he has. A physically and emotionally demanding role: Paul spends much of the play confined to a bed or wheelchair, fighting a battle of psychology rather than movement.
Annie Wilkes Lead
A former nurse and Paul Sheldon’s self-declared “number one fan.” By turns warm, wounded, funny, and terrifying, Annie is one of the great roles in modern thriller writing — a character who can turn the temperature of a room with a single word. This role demands extraordinary range: genuine tenderness, volatile menace, and everything in between, often within the same scene.
Buster Supporting
The local sheriff — dogged, observant, and quietly sharp. As the search for the missing novelist unfolds, Buster’s instincts pull him ever closer to Annie’s farmhouse. A grounded, characterful role that provides the audience’s lifeline to the world outside.
